3rd ODI: England elect to bat against Oz

SYDNEY: England won the toss and chose to bat against Australia in the third one-day international at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Sunday.

Australia lead the seven-match series 2-0 after wins in Melbourne and Hobart, but were forced to leave out injured duo Nathan Hauritz and Shaun Tait from the team that won by 46 runs on Friday.

Hauritz requires surgery on a dislocated shoulder suffered in the field in Hobart, while Tait has a thigh strain.

The home side recalled Xavier Doherty and promoted Victorian all-rounder John Hastings.

England have also been hit by injury, with Kevin Pietersen to miss the clash with a groin injury and seamer Tim Bresnan sidelined by a calf strain.

Veteran Paul Collingwood returns for his first game of the series, while Chris Woakes, who impressed in the recent Twenty20 internationals against Australia, was named to make his ODI debut.

James Tredwell was dropped for Luke Wright.
