Tata SC set up summit clash with BPCL

MUMBAI: Last year's runners up Tata Sports Club will meet Bharat Petroleum in the four-day final of the Times Shield 'A' Division Cricket Tournament which begins on Saturday at Mumbai Cricket Association's Bandra-Kurla Complex facility. Resuming at their overnight score of eight for no loss, Tata SC were in a comfortable position at 235-5. But Air-India who folded up at 225, threw in the towel and conceded the match at the tea break on the second day of the three-day semifinal.

One drop Nikhil Patil Jr top scored for Tata with an unbeaten 69 of 121 balls. His knock included three sixes and six boundaries.

Praful Waghela (46) and Sahil Kukreja (32) made valuable contributions too. Medium pacer Moondeep Mangela was the pick among Air-India bowlers, and returned with figures of 2-43. In the other semi-final DY Patil Group 'A' conceded the match when Bharat Petroleum were cruising at 288 for 2 in reply to the hosts' total of 284 just before close of play on the second day.

An unbeaten knock of 126 by Bhavin Thakkar was the highlight of BPCL's innings. Thakkar was also involved in two big partnerships. First, the former Mumbai Ranji Trophy player added 152 runs for the second wicket with Sitanshu Kotak, who made 78, and then put on 97 runs for the unbroken third wicket with Vinit Indulkat (35).. Naval Dockyard set to win

Naval Dockyard set to score 227 for a victory in 40 overs were 66-2 in 14 overs when stumps were drawn on the second day of their three-day 'D' Division Times Shield final against Balbhai Nanavati Hospital at Cross Maidan.

Brief scores: Balbhai Nanavati Hospital 216 and 187 for 8 (V Mungekar 40, D Patade 22 , P Tambe 55; Sandesh Thakur 2-59, R Thakur 2-! 30) vs N aval Dockyard 177 (S Thakur 33, B Saitwadekae 28; VMungekar 3-70, V Chaturvedi 4-48) and 66 for 2 in 14 overs (M Matkar batting 32).
