Powar heroics rescue Tata SC against BPCL

MUMBAI: Bharat Petroleum did well to restrict Tata Sports Club to 186 on day one of the four-day final of the 'A' Division Times Shield Cricket Tournament at the BKC ground, Bandra, on Saturday.



At draw of stumps, Bharat Petroleum were 89 for two in 23 overs. After Tata's won the toss and elected to bat, openers Sahil Kukreja (24) and lefthander Praful Waghela put on 29 runs for the first wicket.

There after, they lost wickets at regular intervals and were 66 for four at lunch. Medium pacer Abhishek Nayar was the key bowler for Tata. There after Tata lost two more wickets for the addition of 42 runs as Nayar scalped the wickets of Chintan Shah (10) and Tushar Gharat (10).

However, the seventh wicket pair of Ramesh Powar (67, 10x4, 1x6) and Suffiyan Shaikh (29, 6x4) came together to add invaluable 60 runs in 59 balls.

Nayar finished with four for 51 in his 20 overs while left arm spinner Kiran Adav finished with three for six in just 4.5 overs.

Bharat Petroleum openers Bhavin Thakkar and Anup Revandkar gave them a good start by putting on 59 runs before Thakkar was run out in a mix up for 25. Just before close of play, Revandkar who was looking good for a big score, was bowled by left arm spinner Mithun Mukharji for a well-made 51 in 52 balls which had eight fours.

Brief score: Tata Sports Club 186 in 60 overs (Sahil Kukreja 24, Ramesh Powar 67, Sufiyan Shaikh 29; Abhishek Nayar 4-51, Kiran Adav 3-6) vs Bharat Petroleum 89-2 in 23 overs (Bhavin Thakkar 25, Anup Revandkar 51).

Khizar guides Mumbai to win: Leg spinner Khizar Dafedar (5-28) did the trick to help Mumbai win on the first innings by 102 runs in the under-14 West Zone tournament at Deccan Gymkhana, Pune, on Saturday.

After Arman Jaffer (89) and Sarfaraz Khan (75) propped Mumbai's declared innings at 304, it was pacer Nishant Williams (2-38) who dealt the early blow on day one to reduce Baroda to 23 for three.

Resuming on day two, Baroda were sent pack! ing by K hizar for 202.
