Indian women confident ahead of T20 series against West Indies

AHMEDABAD: Upbeat after ODI series win over the visiting West Indies, the Indian women's cricket team captain Jhulan Goswami on Friday said that she would like to keep the momentum going in order to grab the three-match T20 series beginning on Saturday.

"The team is on a high after the 3-2 ODI series win against West Indies women," Goswami told mediapersons at the Sardar Patel stadium.

"We know this ground very well. We have played here many times in the past. Also, the girls have done extremely well in the ODI series," she said.

When asked about the strength of her team, Goswami said that it had a good number of all-rounders.

"We have fairly good number of all-rounders--about 6-7 of them. They can bat as well as bowl well. This I think is our basic strength."

Goswami also said that even she could bat higher in the order and hit some big shots in the T20 form of the game, when asked if she was thinking of promoting herself up the batting order against the West Indian team.

She further said that this series would help her team prepare for the upcoming tour of England later this year.

West Indian skipper Marissa Aguilleira said that it was going to be very competitive in the T20 series which is different from the ODI series.

"We would keep up the good form during the T20 series, where our approach would be very different from that of the ODI series," Aguilleira said.

She said that her team is a good mix of bowlers and batswomen and has a perfect balance.

The WI skipper said that there was some problem in the middle order, but the girls were learning from their mistakes during the ODI series.

Aguilleira also said that there was also problem of playing the spinners well and rotating the strikes.

"Though our side is a less experienced than the Indian side, but we are working on our weaknesses and looking forward to win the T20 series," she said.

WI team coach and former West Indian ! opener Sherwin Campbell, said that the team was improving with every match.

"We have asked all the players to concentrate on basics and maintain consistency," Campbell said.

Admitting that his team could have done better, Campbell defended them by saying that it was the first tour for most the girls in the squad.
