DAV-8 win by the skin of their teeth to reach final

CHANDIGARH: DAV Senior Secondary School, Sector 8, beat Hindu Sabha School, Amritsar, in a thriller by eight runs in the semifinal of the Times-NIE inter-school U-19 T20 cricket tournament for Cremica Cup, being played at Gandhi Grounds in Amritsar on Tuesday.

Winning the toss and electing to bowl, Hindu Sabha did a good job to restrict DAV to 137 for 7 from their allotted quota of 20 overs. For DAV, Naveen top scored with his 26-ball knock of 40, which included eight crackling boundaries. He was well supported by Prashant, who also made 40 off 38 balls, hitting four boundaries. Krishan contributed 20 vital runs, which came off just nine balls and included one boundary and one six. The main wicket taker for the home team was Rakesh with his haul of 3 for 25 off 4 overs.

In reply, Hindu Sabha fought hard and nearly pulled off a win but they ran out of overs and fell short by eight runs, scoring 129 for 8 in 20 overs. Harmandeep (30, 19b, 1x4, 2x6), Lavan Gil (28, 33b) and Ashwani (27, 20b, 1x4, 1x6) were the main run scorers for Hindu Sabha. Rahul of DAV took 3 for 21 off 4 overs. Naveen of DAV was adjudged man of the match.
