Matt Prior handed a shock call-up for the Cricket World Cup

MATT PRIOR has been given a dramatic recall by England.

He replaces Surrey's Steve Davies for the current one-day series in Australia and next month's World Cup. Wicketkeeper Prior will be confirmed in the 15-man squad today for the seven-week tournament in India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. Ashes hero Prior, who scored a century in the Fifth Test in Sydney, has so far failed to have the same impact on limited-overs matches for England. But the selectors feel he can still score heavily in the shorter form of the game - as an opener or in the middle order. Sussex all-rounder Luke Wright gets the nod over Chris Tremlett because he provides more options on the slower pitches on the sub-continent. And Twenty20 captain Paul Collingwood, being rested against the Aussies in the current series, is also in the party. ENGLAND SQUAD: Strauss (capt), Bell, Trott, Pietersen, Morgan, Prior (wkt), Collingwood, Wright, Yardy, Swann, Tredwell, Bresnan, Broad, Anderson, Shahzad.
