Having participated in two Ashes tours, Vaughan understands the pressures of leadership, as well as the difficulty of maintaining intensity and drive when results go downhill.
England should look to the World Cup now, Vaughan wrote on his Twitter page. Rest Strauss and make sure he is fresh for the sub-continent. Captaincy a little harder than playing. He has played non-stop since May. Only Trott has done the same.
Strauss himself presented a brave face at the post-match press conference in Sydney, calling for the management to show confidence in the same batsmen who have failed in the past two games.
He also rejected suggestions that the team are experiencing an Ashes hangover, or symptoms of fatigue.
Its an easy conclusion to jump to, Strauss said, but both sets of players have played exactly the same amount of cricket. If fatigue is setting in then that is not good enough.
