Advantage Rajasthan against Baroda on Day 2
VADODARA: Rajasthan got a strong hold over the game on the second day of the Ranji Trophy final after their middle-order made useful contributions to take the score to 394 at the Motibaug Ground on Wednesday. The visitors took full advantage of the home team's decision to bowl first on a wicket that offered little movement to the pacers.
Though left-arm spinner Bhargav Bhatt toiled all day for a five-wicket haul, he could not stop Rajasthan from scoring big. The Baroda pacers could not extract much from the wicket during the first hour as overnight batsmen Robin Bist and Vivek Yadav played watchfully.
Baroda too made a good start as openers Jaikishan Kolsawala and Connor Williams started positively by playing some pleasing shots. However, the wicket had started offering uneven bounce on Wednesday and it may become a cause of concern for the home team, who ended the day at 78 for one.
Resuming at 198 for three, Rajasthan added 50 runs in 70 balls without losing any wicket before Bhatt once again got the breakthrough as he trapped Yadav (27 runs, 56 balls) leg before when the score was 240.
Bist had settled down well and was on his way to a century when Bhatt bowled a beautiful delivery that was pitched outside the leg stump and turned in sharply to disturb the off stump. He was dismissed for 77 off 228 balls.
Baroda sniffed a chance to bowl out Rajasthan below 350, but Ashok Menaria and Rashmi Ranjan Parida stitched together a crucial partnership of 77 to take their team to 346. Parida scored his third half century of the season while Menaria scored 45, before Bhatt forced him to edge one at short-leg, which was gobbled up by Kedar Devdhar.
Then, the other spinner Swapnil Singh bowled Deepak Chahar and Pankaj Singh even as Parida kept attacking at the other end. Bhatt finally bowled Parida to wrap up the innings.
